This has been a very busy month for us, Jacob our little redneck wallaby he is doing so well, staying outside all night but, still comes in of a morning for a sip of his bottle and a nap. He is so special, as they all are of course.
Amy, what can I say about her, she is still the most delightful little joey, spending a lot of her time outside with some other Eastern Greys a little older than her, they will teach her what she needs to know. She is healthy and never has any health problems which is great.
Then, another little one came into care, on the 22nd October, 2.5 kg Eastern Grey joey male, we named him Charlie, another one that seems to be in perfect health no problems, he was found in someones backyard in town just standing there they watched to see if the mother would come back but nothing, so he was handed into care. I don’t know what happened to the mother she could have been injured and couldn’t get him into her pouch. We will never know. I do know he will be much loved and safe, till he is ready to leave us and start his own journey of life.
I also have some sad and happy news, Betty the bettong has left us, she used to come every night to say hello, but 4 days ago stopped coming. I am hoping she has met a guy If she comes again I will let you all know. I do miss her and hope she is okay.
3 weeks ago I released a mob of Eastern Grey kangaroos that were ready to leave, I do a soft release so, they are able to come back if not ready to leave. I have the gates open from 6am till 6pm if they come back before 6pm then they are locked in for the night, so far, they are all coming back, gradually they will be fewer and fewer to come home as they start their new mobs. Releasing them is such a tough time for me, as they have usuallybeen here a long time, some for a couple of years , they have such a close bond with you and you have to break that so they can be wild again so it is sad but also happy you have come so far with them. My hope is they live a safe life and like most of them some will come back to say hi.
